Cheltenham Festival Tips

Best Jockeys and Trainer at the Cheltenham Festival

The Cheltenham Festival Top Trainer award, also known as the Trainers’ Championship, is presented to the trainer who achieves the highest number of wins during the four-day event. Over the years, several legendary trainers have made their mark in Cheltenham’s history, but one name that stands out is Willie Mullins. Mullins, a masterful trainer from Ireland, has dominated the festival in recent times, securing the top trainer title on multiple occasions. With an impressive track record, Mullins has consistently produced winners and has become synonymous with success at Cheltenham. In 2023, he clinched the top trainer award with six victories, adding to his previous triumphs in 2022, 2021, 2020, 2016, 2015, 2014, and 2013.

It’s worth noting that the success of top trainers often results in multiple entries in the same race, as they strive to maximise their chances of securing wins. This strategy should be considered by punters when placing their bets during the Cheltenham Festival, as it can impact the odds and overall outcome of the races.

Similarly, the Cheltenham Festival Top Jockey award recognizes the jockey with the highest number of victories during the prestigious event. This accolade holds great significance for jockeys, as it not only showcases their exceptional riding skills but also elevates their reputation within the racing community. In recent years, the talented jockey Paul Townend and the trailblazing Rachael Blackmore have emerged as dominant figures in the race for the top jockey title.

Paul Townend, associated with the powerhouse stable of Willie Mullins, has displayed remarkable consistency and skill, securing the top jockey award in 2023, 2022, and 2020. Rachael Blackmore, a trailblasing jockey who has shattered glass ceilings in the sport, claimed the title in 2021, becoming the first female jockey to achieve this feat. These jockeys’ successes can largely be attributed to their partnerships with top trainers, as they often ride for stables that consistently produce high-quality runners.

When considering the Cheltenham Festival Top Trainer and Top Jockey awards, it is important to recognise the symbiotic relationship between trainers and jockeys. Their collaboration and shared expertise contribute to the impressive results achieved at this prestigious event. As the festival approaches, punters and racing enthusiasts should closely follow the performances of these trainers and jockeys, as their previous successes can serve as valuable indicators for making informed betting decisions.
