Total Profit
Across the ten-week review period the service generated:
£2,005.36 profit
Only one week finished in the red, while the remaining nine weeks were profitable, giving a 90% profitable-week rate.
That level of consistency is impressive and suggests the service is not relying on one exceptional month to inflate its results.
Strike Rate
One of the standout statistics is the strike rate.
- 574 successful lays
- 79 losing lays
- 87.9% strike rate
For lay betting, anything above 85% is generally considered strong, especially when the selections average close to 8.0 in odds.
Average Odds
The average advised lay odds across the proofed selections were:
7.95
That is higher than many competing lay services, which often concentrate between 3.0 and 5.0.
Higher average odds naturally increase liability, making effective bankroll management essential.
ROI
Using the total stakes recorded in the betting log, the service achieved an estimated:
23.9% Return on Investment (ROI)
A sustained ROI above 20% over several hundred bets is a very respectable return for an exchange betting systems.
Betting Activity
This is not a service for someone wanting just one or two bets each day.
Members should expect:
- Multiple selections daily
- Racing from both the UK and Ireland
- Action throughout the afternoon and evening
- Active exchange betting
The proofing shows bets spread across numerous meetings every day.

Staking Plan
Lay Picks follows a structured recovery staking system.
Every selection includes:
- Suggested stake
- Recovery step
- Running liability
- Running bank
- Next stake recommendation
- Confirmation that the betting bank covers the required liability
This level of transparency is rarely seen.
Risk
Although the strike rate is extremely high, followers need to understand the risks involved.
During recovery sequences the advised liabilities can become very large before the sequence is completed.
The proofing includes examples where liabilities exceeded £900, with one recovery sequence temporarily requiring liability above £1,800 before the bank recovered. This underlines the importance of starting with the recommended betting bank and sticking to the staking plan.
This is not a low-risk level-stakes system.
Transparency
This is arguably Lay Picks’ greatest strength.
Every bet is recorded with:
- Racecourse
- Horse
- Lay odds
- Result
- Suggested stake
- Liability
- Running betting bank
- Recovery step
- Profit/Loss
Both winners and losers are included, allowing potential members to judge the service on complete results rather than marketing claims.
Pros
- Excellent 87.9% strike rate.
- Over £2,000 profit during the review period.
- Nine profitable weeks from ten.
- Average lay odds of 7.95 demonstrate confidence in the selection process.
- Full proofing with complete betting records.
- Clear bankroll management guidance.
- Transparent recovery system.
Cons
- Recovery staking requires discipline.
- High liabilities can occur after consecutive losing lays.
- Requires a properly funded Betfair Exchange bank.
- Not suitable for casual bettors wanting only a handful of bets each week.
Rules
A process update has been made to the daily Lay Picks pre-off checks.
After a successful June and a good start to July, the aim is to keep improving the safety process and data analysis behind the daily selections.
If any published play shortens by 40% or more from the original recommended lay price before the off, that selection should now be treated as a SKIP. Where live read-only odds are available, the system has also been updated to apply this automatically.
This replaces the previous 50% hard-cut threshold. The reason for the change is that a sharp pre-off move can indicate a material shift in market confidence, especially where the original exchange snapshot had limited liquidity or the horse moves into a stronger market position.
For pre-off checks, please apply the following:
40%+ odds cut: SKIP
50%+ odds cut: SKIP, treated as an even stronger warning
Any selection removed this way: must not remain in the Top 2 rankings
This rule is intended as a safety override only. It does not mean every shorter price is automatically unsafe, but a 40%+ cut from the published lay price is now considered too much late support to leave in the final list.
Daily picks and daily results will continue to be sent as usual. We are looking forward to a successful review and will continue working to make the process as clear, consistent and safe as possible.
How do I get the Bets
Members access the full service through the live Lay Picks app dashboard, which displays the day’s complete racecard, every final PLAY/SKIP decision, live exchange-price updated every 10 seconds and detailed reasoning for each Play. They also include their top two picks of the day at the top of the dashboard

Staking and Liability
Lay Picks recommend starting with a 1k bank to make the stakes seem worthwhile but it can be done with any amount.
The stakes are calculated by the spreadsheet based on the odds and % of total bank.
Lay betting carries a different risk profile from ordinary back betting. The amount lost when a lay fails is determined by the odds and liability, not simply by the headline stake.
Lay Picks provides a free lay betting bank tracker that records stakes, odds, liability, bank movement and results. It cannot prevent losses, but it can make exposure harder to ignore and help identify emotional staking or attempts to chase a previous loss.
Verdict
Lay Picks has produced one of the strongest sets of publicly available lay betting results we’ve analysed this year.
The combination of an 87.9% strike rate, 23.9% ROI, £2,005 profit in ten weeks, and complete proofing of every selection gives the service considerable credibility.
The recovery staking model means followers must be comfortable with occasional periods of high liability, but the published records show that the strategy has consistently recovered during the review period.
If you understand exchange betting, have an adequate betting bank and are prepared to follow the staking plan exactly, Lay Picks is currently one of the more impressive horse racing lay services available.
